Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about working with Balanced Wealth Partners.

We put planning first. Before we ever talk about investments, we want to understand your goals, your timeline, and what financial security actually looks like for you. We're a small, independent firm, which means you work directly with Chase and his team, not a junior associate or a rotating cast of advisors. If you're looking for someone who will give you honest, personalized guidance and actually be available when you need them, we think that's a meaningful difference.
You probably can handle a lot of it yourself, and if you're disciplined and have the time, that's genuinely fine. Where a planner tends to add the most value is in the details that are easy to miss: tax-efficient account strategies, Roth conversion timing, coordinating your investments with your insurance and estate plan, and keeping you from making reactive decisions during volatile markets. Most people don't have a knowledge problem; they have a time and coordination problem. We help make sure all the pieces fit together and nothing falls through the cracks.
A fiduciary is legally required to act in your best interest, not their own. As a registered investment advisor and CFP, Chase is held to the fiduciary standard at all times. That means the advice you receive is based on what's right for your situation, full stop.
We are paid directly by our clients. Depending on the engagement, fees are structured as a flat annual retainer, a one-time project fee, or a percentage of assets under management. We'll be transparent about costs upfront so there are no surprises, and our incentives are always aligned with yours.
Our clients tend to fall into a few groups: families in Fort Collins who are building toward retirement and want a real plan, not just a portfolio; professionals in their 40s and 50s who've accumulated assets and want to make sure they're optimizing across taxes, investments, and estate planning; and business owners who are thinking about an eventual exit and want to start planning early. What they have in common is that they're serious about their finances and want a long-term relationship with someone they can trust.
We start with a complimentary introductory meeting to get a sense of your situation and make sure we're a good fit. If we move forward, we gather information about your finances, goals, and current accounts, then build out your financial plan over the following few weeks. We'll walk through it together, answer questions, and make adjustments until it reflects where you actually want to go. From there, we meet regularly to review progress and adapt the plan as your life changes.
